Ronald Diggs Memorial Music Scholarship
The Ronald “Plug” Diggs Memorial Music Scholarship honors Ronald Diggs, a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish whose passion for music spanned more than 58 years. He served as Musical Director at Mount Zion Community Church of Boutte and was deeply committed to the development and sharing of gospel music. Ronald’s love for music began at a young age when he taught himself to play the organ by ear, drawing inspiration from music he heard on the radio. As his talent progressed, he sought formal instruction from certified mentors to further develop his skills. He was especially passionate about uniting choirs and gospel groups from various churches through music and fellowship. This vision led to the creation of the Mount Zion Gospel Festival, first held in 1999 and later relocated to Westbank Bridge Park in 2021 to accommodate its growth. The Ronald Diggs Memorial Music Scholarship will be awarded to two senior students — one from Hahnville High School and one from Destrehan High School. Recipients must attend the Ronald Diggs Memorial Musical on May 24, 2026 at 11:30 AM to receive the scholarship.

Tony Waguespack Memorial Scholarship
Tony Waguespack, a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, was a 1990 Hahnville High School Graduate and four-year HHS athlete. Tony worked a 24-year career at Monsanto in Luling, and he was an avid outdoorsman, sports enthusiast, and incredibly loving son, brother, uncle, and friend to all who met him.
At the age of 45, Tony was taken from this world entirely too young. So young, that many would say that he didn’t get a chance to live his life. But Tony lived his life more than most.
Through high school, and throughout his life, Tony loved life to the fullest. Never taking one day for granted, Tony always seemed to be most concerned with making other’s happy and, with his incredibly infectious smile, he had the gift of leaving a smile on everyone’s face he encountered. Tony truly defined living his dash.
The Tony Waguespack Memorial Scholarship is awarded to one male and one female HHS student athlete that epitomizes what “Living the Dash” (the dash between one’s final dates) truly means. Its recipient may not necessarily have the highest GPA or perfect ACT score, but they certainly show an insatiable love for life.
This year’s recipients of the Tony Waguespack Memorial Scholarship will have displayed a desire for living life and striving to make other’s days, and lives, better than before they entered them.
