Ms. Lynette Matthews

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance and Health Promotion from the University of New Orleans in 2006. Upon graduating, I began my teaching career at Destrehan High School, where I served for more than two decades teaching Health and Physical Education. In 2016, I earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, which further prepared me to serve students, teachers, and school communities in leadership roles.

Prior to joining Destrehan High School, I spent four years as the Girls Basketball Coach at my alma mater, East Jefferson High School. During my tenure at Destrehan, I have coached Girls Basketball, Volleyball, Girls Soccer, Girls Track & Field, and Cross Country. My goal was and still is to positively impact the lives of student-athletes both on and off the field of play. I have continuously lead teams to post season play, State Championships as well as State runner-up achievements.

In addition to my coaching responsibilities, I served as the Electives Department Chair for 13 years, working collaboratively with colleagues to support instructional excellence, mentor teachers, and strengthen departmental programs. I have also served on numerous school and district committees, including the Scholarship Committee, New Student Orientation Committee, Superintendent Stakeholder Committee, Student of the Year Committee, in addition to mentored resident and new teachers entering the district.

I am a passionate educator and leader with the belief that meaningful relationships are the foundation of student success. My guiding philosophy is simple: “meet people where they are.” I strive to create an environment where every student and staff member feels valued, respected, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

As I join the Tiger family, I remain committed to fostering a positive school culture through collaboration, compassion, and service. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with the Hahnville High School community while helping pursue the school's mission to ensure that all students learn and achieve at high levels and I am honored for the opportunity to help lead.
