Ms. Jamila Martin

It is an honor to serve on the administrative team here at Hahnville High School. With over 20 years of experience dedicated to working with young people, my career path has been both diverse and rewarding. My journey began in New Orleans as an Assistant Family Teacher at Girls and Boys Town, followed by a role as a juvenile probation officer. Later, while in Dallas, Texas, I served as a Child Protective Services caseworker, earned my alternative teaching certification, and began my career as an educator in Cedar Hill Independent School District.

In 2012, I joined the St. Charles Parish Public Schools family at R.K. Smith Middle School, where I taught 6th-grade ELA and 7th- and 8th-grade social studies and science. During that time, I also coached basketball and track and field. I eventually transitioned to the Child Welfare & Attendance Office as a Student Advocate, where I supported all Westbank elementary schools and R.K. Smith Middle School.

One of the highlights of my professional career has been joining Hahnville High School. My time on the administrative team started when I took on the role of Administrative Monitor. I am honored to now be in my third year at HHS, which includes serving in my second year as an Assistant Principal. This year, I am excited to work with our 12th-grade students while overseeing the science, foreign language, and art departments. Additionally, I serve as a School Testing Coordinator and lead our school’s Equity Committee. For me, the most rewarding part of my work at HHS is building meaningful relationships with our students, faculty, families, and the surrounding community.

Originally from Kenner, Louisiana, I am a proud graduate of Bonnabel High School and Xavier University of Louisiana, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I subsequently obtained my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.

I firmly believe that every student is capable of success, and it is our responsibility as educators to discover the unique way each child learns best. I often turn to the quote, "No one is good at everything, but everyone is good at something." My goal is to help each student uncover their "something" and empower them to reach their full potential. I look forward to a year of shared growth, integrity, and Tiger pride.
