Ms. Jamila Martin

I am honored to serve as a member of the Hahnville High School administrative team. My passion for working with young people spans more than 20 years and has taken many forms throughout my career. I began serving youth as an Assistant Family Teacher at Girls and Boys Town in New Orleans and later as a juvenile probation officer. My journey continued in Dallas, Texas, where I worked as a Child Protective Services caseworker, earned my alternative teaching certification, and launched my teaching career in Cedar Hill ISD.

In 2012, I joined St. Charles Parish Public Schools as a 6th grade ELA teacher at R.K. Smith Middle School. Over the next several years, I taught 7th grade social studies and science as well as 8th grade science, while also coaching basketball and assisting with track. I later transitioned to the Child Welfare & Attendance Office as a Student Advocate, supporting Westbank elementary schools and R.K. Smith Middle School.

Moving to Hahnville High School has been a remarkable opportunity. I began my administrative journey here as an Administrative Monitor and am now in my second year, serving as Assistant Principal. This year, I am proud to work alongside our 12th-grade students and oversee the science, foreign language, art, and band departments. I also serve as one of the School Testing Coordinators and lead the school’s Equity Committee. Building strong relationships with students, faculty, families, and our community has been the most rewarding aspect of my work at HHS.

A native of Kenner, Louisiana, I am a graduate of Bonnabel High School and Xavier University of Louisiana, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I later earned my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.

I firmly believe that every student can learn—it is our responsibility as educators to discover how each student learns best. One of my favorite quotes is, “No one is good at everything, but everyone is good at something.” My goal is to help each student uncover their “something” and to empower them to achieve greatness. I look forward to an amazing year of  shared growth, integrity, and Tiger pride.
